A Slight Transition…

The Press Room will no longer be hosting art shows.  The venue was fantastic and, for the time that it lasted , the shows were equally as superb.  The curator, though, has jumped ship and moved to Morro Bay.  New shows are a certainty in the future; where and when, I don’t yet know.  In the mean time this blog will make a slight shift to feature local artists and shows in and around the San Luis Obispo County area.  After all, art happens here too…

To quote the Great McKenzie:

“The true traveler is he, or she, who goes without knowing why…”

So here we go!

Trent Ichiro Watanabe Art Show

First Thursday of March is just around the bend and the new month heralds an exciting new show at The Press Room.  This exhibition features the artist Trent Ichiro Watanabe with a selection of new works.  Not only is this the long awaited unveiling of his most recent creations but it is also an opportunity to enjoy an evening with the artist himself.  Besides the pleasure of Trent’s company, the opening reception, with begins at 8pm on March the 1st, also boasts a substantial line-up of live entertainment, as well as a chance to drink one of the artist’s patented “Turkey Callers.”

No doubt this should will be an evening to remember (depending on the number of “Turkey Callers” you happen to try).

The Fantastic Schedule of Upcoming Shows…

The Current show hanging at The Press Room, “Mosaics,” the Permanent Mark Art Show, continues at the bar until February 29th.  For anyone who hasn’t had the chance to check it out, this show is a must see.

Opening March 1st, again at 8pm, MOL Arts is proud to announce a solo exhibition of the works of Trent Watanabe.  The show will feature all new works by the artist and promises to be a highlight.

This fantastic show is to be followed in April by a group show of the printmaking department at Santa Barbara City College.  After that, in May, guest curator Nathan Vonk, of the Santa Barbara Arts Blog and Sullivan & Goss, takes over to add a little spice, and a different perspective, to The Press Room Art Shows.

Keep following the updates plus the forthcoming addition of a, “local artists interview section,” set appear in the near future.

Selected Art from the Golden Eagle Art Show

Golden Eagle Art Show Opening

The opening reception for the Golden Eagle Art Show, at the Press Room, was quite an event.  The featured artists mingled  not only with their friends and peers from the tattoo community but also with a very wide variety of other demographics, all on hand to appreciate the exhibition.  The highlights included the art, obviously, but also the energy and sense of camaraderie, not all of which was fueled by the Press Room’s notoriously strong drinks.  Certainly this show will remain a highlight for both the bar and the artists at Golden Eagle Tattoo.

Thank again to all who attended and a special thanks to Randy for her fine efforts in catering the exhibition.

For those of you unlucky enough to miss the opening reception, all the art will be on display until February 1st.
